In October 2017 I was contacted by Economist Films and asked to participate in a documentary on sport psychology. After many detailed conversations and quizzing by their team, I was informed that they would like to come and film me working with Cambridge University Women’s and Lightweight boat clubs.
A perfect sunrise and a long day of filming awaited us at Ely. The filming involved 2 hours out on the water in a launch boat observing the crews train, an hour workshop on challenge and threat states with open and lightweight crews, a one-to-one interview, a mock one-to-one client session and various conversations with coaches and crews was filmed.
The result is coverage in a 5-minute documentary on how to thrive or dive under pressure. Take a look! I hope you enjoy it.
Challenge and Threat states is an area I work on a lot with clients. Building resources to create a challenge state involves work on self-confidence, control of thinking and focusing on what can be achieved. You can read more about challenge and threat states in my Outdoor Swimmer article -on the ‘dealing with pressure/racing’ tab.
